The Confluence exhibition was held at the John Curtin Gallery from 28 September to 2 December 2018 and it brought together the ceramic artworks of Warrick Palmateer and Pippin Drysdale; exploring their unique collaboration, whilst showcasing distinctive bodies of work. Warrick’s work was titled ‘The Meridian Art Series’
A seven part audio visual collection was created by film maker Matthew Bettinaglio to accompany the Meridian Art Series. The collection documented the phases of creation – from seeds of inspiration through to reveal.
Act I – Inspiration
Explores the inspirational coastal landscape around Palmateer’s home, North of Perth.
Act II – Connection
Documents Palmateer’s connection to the WA coast, through his love of surfing.
Act III – Preparation
References some of the techniques used to collect the textures from the littoral zone out the front of Palmateer’s coastal home.
Act IV ‘Creation Pt 1’
Delves into Palmateer’s collaboration with Western Australian brick manufacturer, Brikmakers, as he builds the series of work. Documents the process of surface and colour development.
Act V ‘Creation Pt 2’
Documents the process of creating and constructing the vessels.
Act VI Juxtaposition
Juxtaposes the processes used to make clay bricks and the construction techniques employed in the creation of the vessels.
Act VII Revelation
Reveals the culmination of the making process by documenting the successful firing of two vessels in one of Brikmakers 170 metre tunnel kilns.
