The 2024 Indian Ocean Craft Triennial (IOTA24) explores the theme ‘Codes in Parallel,’ which investigates the diverse languages embedded in contemporary craft. This year’s exhibition highlights how art functions as a universal language, enriched by the cultural exchanges and historical influences across the Indian Ocean region.

The theme delves into how art communicates on multiple levels and emphasises how art acts as a coded language, conveying messages through, for example, symbols, patterns, and forms that transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries. This exploration of semiotics reveals the rich, interconnected histories and traditions that influence and shape contemporary craft practices across the Indian Ocean region.
